23 May HEARTBEAT: INSTALLATION – DR GEORGE MUKHARI ACADEMIC HOSPITAL, GAUTENG
Situated in the Ga-Rankuwa region, north of Tshwane, Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital is a 1650-bed government hospital servicing the needs of the neighbouring communities for more than 40 years. As time has passed, so have the needs of the surrounding communities which have grown considerably, thereby requiring the hospital to not only increase, but also upgrade, its range of services offered.
An example of this is the recent upgrade of a General Ward, to a High Care Ward, thereby allowing patients access to more critical care beds. This refurbishment project was made possible by the generosity of FirstRand’s SPIRE (SA Pandemic Intervention and Relief Effort) Fund.
Hutz Hospi-Tec was appointed as the Main Contractor on the project, the largest and most testing project undertaken to date. As a company, Hutz Hospi-Tec offers a complete turnkey solution, from the initial needs assessment right through to the final commissioning and handover to the client. Our team of professionals as well as our suppliers, which includes Hutz Medical for medical devices, are all well experienced within the industry to deal with any scope of works related to healthcare refurbishments.
“Refurbishment projects such as this one at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital allows ailing healthcare facilities the opportunity to upgrade and service the community with state-of-the-art equipment at a fraction of the cost of a newly built ward or unit. Although the project did not come without its challenges, we are pleased and proud to have successfully completed our largest project yet! We have just started on another section of the hospital, with the upgrade of the Intensive Care Unit,” commented Bernd Thurnher, Executive Director: Hutz Hospi-Tec.
The following disciplines were completed or supplied for the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital High Care Ward Project: Tiling, plumbing and drainage, flooring, masonry, carpentry and joinery, cabinetry, metalwork, glazing, painting, electrical requirements, lighting, HVAC system, medical equipment (Bedhead Service Systems through Hutz Medical), medical gas (piping and installation) and air conditioning.
