02 Jun HEARTBEAT: HUTZ HOSPI-TEC’S TURNKEY SOLUTION SEES KING EDWARD VII UNIT UPGRADED
One of the older government hospitals in the Durban area, the renowned tertiary teaching hospital King Edward VIII has a capacity of more than 850-beds and sees approximately 22 000 out-patients on a monthly basis.
This busy healthcare centre’s paediatric offering recently underwent a refurbishment, undertaken by Hutz Hospi-Tec, with the end result being a state-of-the-art Neonatal High Care Ward.
Hutz Hospi-Tec is a full-service medical infrastructure facilities company with selected industry professionals on board to enable revitalisation programmes with quick turnaround times, at a fraction of the replacement cost.
The company focuses on refurbishment projects which involve the identifying of aging and/or ailing health infrastructures, such as clinics and hospitals, with the objective being to upgrade and revamp these facilities in a cost-effective and timeous manner; while providing quality medical solutions.
Sponsored by FirstRand’s SPIRE Fund, the King Edward VIII hospital project saw an existing aging ICU ward targeted to be refurbished and kitted out to serve as the hospital’s new hi-tech Neonatal High Care Ward, resulting in many more seriously ill infants having the opportunity to receive lifesaving medical treatment.
“Refurbishment projects such as these give ailing healthcare facilities a new lease on life, with their upgrades allowing the hospital to once again service the community with state-of-the-art equipment at a fraction of the cost of a newly built ward or unit,” said Bernd Thurnher, Executive Director: Hutz Hospi-Tec.
For the refurbishment of the existing ward to the new Neonatal ICU Unit, the following disciplines were completed or supplied during the project: tiling, plumbing and drainage, flooring, masonry, carpentry and joinery, metalwork, glazing, painting, electrical requirements, lighting, nurse call systems, medical equipment (Pendants and Medical Screens), medical gas as well as fencing.
“We offer a complete turnkey solution, from the initial needs assessment right through to the final commissioning and handover to the client and everything in between! Our team of professionals as well as our suppliers, which include Hutz Medical for medical devices, are all well experienced within the industry to deal with any scope of works related to healthcare refurbishments. We are pleased to share some images of the completed project,” commented Bernd.
