Johannesburg, South Africa
One of our late-president Nelson Mandela’s greatest dreams was the completion of another children’s hospital, to cater for the needs of chronically ill children. This dream was realized with the opening of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) in December last year in Johannesburg.
The NMCH addresses a great need, as there are only four hospitals in Africa to serve nearly 450 million children. Millions of these children suffer from life-threatening illnesses and have little or no chance of receiving the specialized care they need. The paediatric academic and tertiary referral hospital will ensure that no child will be turned away due to an inability to pay.
The 200-bed, 10 theatre hospital boasts state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and is manned by 150 doctors and 450 paediatric nursing staff. Hutz Medical was involved with this project, overseen by Project Manager Lindi Mostert. We supplied Medical Service Supply Systems (HU21-360, HU21-560 and HU10) as well as Theatre Panels in the form of the HU12-major units.
“It was an honour to work with such dedicated people, building this important, life-enhancing facility to enable the future of our youth. Knowing that children will get the best possible treatment within the safe and child friendly environment is a heart-warming thought,” commented Lindi.
“As the Medical Equipment Consultant appointed to assist the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital project, we found Lindi and the entire Hutz team to be very incredibly professional and they really assisted us to put the finishing touches on the theatre control panels as well as assisting with additional Gabler rails that were required in a few areas, it was a pleasure working with the Hutz team,”
commented Rodney Steven (MD), Medical Equipment Consultants (MEC).
